HEIC to JPG Converter for iPhone Photos
Turn iPhone and iPad photos in HEIC format into JPG files that open on Windows, Android and every upload form. Convert one photo or a whole batch and download them together as a ZIP. The photos are converted in your browser and never uploaded.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- 1Add your HEIC photos. Drop one or more .heic or .heif files onto the box, or tap to choose them. You can add a whole folder's worth at once.
- 2Wait a moment. Each photo takes a second or two. The first one can take a little longer while the converter loads.
- 3Download the JPGs. Save each JPG on its own, or choose Download all as ZIP to get every photo in one file.
What a HEIC file is
HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads have used by default since iOS 11. It stores a photo in roughly half the space of a JPG at the same quality, which is why Apple chose it.
The catch is support. Windows needs an extra extension from the Microsoft Store to open HEIC files, many Android apps and older programs cannot read them, and most government, exam and job portals accept only JPG or PNG. Converting to JPG fixes all three.
Why convert here
- Private: personal photos stay on your device, because the conversion runs in your browser rather than on a server
- Batch: add many photos at once and download them as a single ZIP
- No sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit
- Each result shows its pixel size and file size, so you know what you are uploading
HEIC photos work in our other tools too
You do not always need to convert first. The Exam Photo and Signature Resizer, Passport Size Photo Maker, Compress Image, Resize Image and JPG to PDF all open iPhone HEIC photos directly and save a JPG.
Convert here when you need a plain JPG copy of the photo itself, for example to send to someone on Windows or to keep alongside your other pictures. If a form keeps refusing your iPhone photo, our guide to iPhone photos that will not upload explains why and every way round it.
Stop your iPhone saving HEIC
To take new photos as JPG, open Settings, tap Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. Photos then take more space on the phone, so many people keep High Efficiency and convert only the photos they need.
When you copy photos to a computer with a cable, iOS usually converts them to JPG on the way, as long as Settings, Apps, Photos, Transfer to Mac or PC is set to Automatic. Photos sent by email, AirDrop or cloud storage often stay HEIC.
Size, quality and photo details
The JPG is saved at high quality with the same width and height as the original, so it looks the same on screen. Expect it to be larger than the HEIC, often around twice the size, because JPG compresses less efficiently. If a form needs a smaller file, run the JPG through Compress Image.
The JPG does not carry over the photo's hidden details, such as the camera model, the date taken and the GPS location. That is useful before sharing or uploading a photo, but keep the original HEIC if you want those details in your photo library.
Other formats
For PNG, WebP or AVIF images, such as pictures saved from websites, use PNG, WebP and AVIF to JPG. To go the other way and make a PNG, use JPG to PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Is HEIC the same as HEIF?
Nearly. HEIF is the container format and HEIC is the name Apple uses for HEIF photos. This converter accepts both .heic and .heif files.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
Not noticeably. The JPG is saved at high quality and keeps the full resolution, so it looks the same as the original on screen and in print.
How many photos can I convert at once?
As many as you like, up to 20 MB per photo. With two or more photos, a Download all as ZIP button appears.
What happens to Live Photos?
The still photo converts to a JPG. The short video part of a Live Photo is a separate file and is not included.
Why is the JPG bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC compresses photos about twice as well as JPG, so the same picture takes more space as a JPG. Use Compress Image if you need it smaller.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Linux.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser and the photos never leave your device.
