IBPS and SBI Photo, Signature, Thumb and Declaration Size 2026

Photo, signature, left thumb and declaration sizes for IBPS PO, Clerk, RRB and SBI forms, with the declaration text and fixes for rejected uploads.

IBPS and SBI photo and signature size at a glance

IBPS forms for PO, Clerk, RRB and SO, and SBI forms for PO and Clerk, ask for the same four scanned files. These are the sizes in the 2025 and 2026 notices:

  • Photograph: 200 x 230 pixels, 20 to 50 KB, JPG
  • Signature: 140 x 60 pixels, 10 to 20 KB, JPG
  • Left thumb impression: 240 x 240 pixels at 200 DPI, 20 to 50 KB for SBI and up to 100 KB for IBPS, JPG
  • Handwritten declaration: 800 x 400 pixels at 200 DPI, 50 to 100 KB, JPG

The pixel sizes are listed as preferred, but the KB ranges are enforced: the portal refuses a file that is too small just as it refuses one that is too large.

The notice for your own cycle is the final word. Open its How to Apply section and compare these figures before you start, because one changed number is enough to get an upload refused.

The photograph

Use a recent colour photo against a plain light background, ideally white. Your face should be in the centre and fill most of the frame, looking straight at the camera with both ears visible. Recent notices rule out caps, hats and dark glasses, and allow religious headwear as long as it does not cover the face. If you wear spectacles, move the light so there is no glare on the lenses.

The notices also rule out selfies and casual snapshots. A phone photo works if it looks like a proper passport photo: someone else holds the phone at eye level, about a metre away, with daylight from a window in front of you rather than behind.

Crop to your head and the top of your shoulders. A photo that shows half your body leaves your face too small once it shrinks to 200 x 230 pixels.

Live photo capture during registration

Besides the uploaded photo, IBPS takes a live photo of you during registration. On a laptop it uses the webcam; recent cycles also show a QR code you can scan to take the photo on your phone instead, after which you tick a box to confirm it. You cannot pick a file for this step, so compression and resizing do not apply to it.

The live photo, the uploaded photo and your appearance at the exam centre are compared, so treat the live capture like a passport photo:

  • Sit facing a window or a bright lamp, against a plain wall
  • Remove caps, masks and dark glasses, and look straight into the camera
  • Keep your whole face inside the outline shown on screen
  • Use the same look on exam day: a very different hairstyle or beard can slow down verification

If the capture keeps failing, try another browser, allow camera access when asked, and close other apps that might be using the camera.

The signature

Sign on plain white paper with a black ink pen. The notices require your own signature, not one written by anyone else, and signatures in capital letters are not accepted, so sign in your usual running hand.

What you upload becomes the reference for every later stage. You sign the attendance sheet and call letter at the exam, and again at later stages, and those signatures are compared with this one. A mismatch can cost you the selection, so use the signature you can repeat comfortably, not a neater version you only manage once.

Photograph the page in daylight with the phone held flat above it. A grey or shadowed background is the usual reason a signature looks smudged after shrinking to 140 x 60 pixels.

The left thumb impression

Press your left thumb once on a blue or black ink pad, then once on white paper, without rolling or pressing twice. The print should show clear ridges, not a solid blob. Practise on scrap paper first; a light, even press gives the cleanest result.

If you do not have a left thumb, the notices set out the order to follow:

  • Right thumb
  • A finger of the left hand, starting with the forefinger
  • A finger of the right hand, starting with the forefinger
  • The left toe

If you use anything other than the left thumb, write which finger or toe it is, and of which hand or foot, below the print so it appears in the scan.

Handwritten declaration text and format

Write the declaration in English, in your own handwriting, with black ink on white paper. Recent notices give this text, with your name in the blank:

"I, _______ (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required."

Write your name exactly as you entered it in the form and as it appears on your ID proof; a spelling that differs between documents causes trouble at verification. Copy the rest exactly. Do not add or drop words, and do not write it in capital letters; a declaration in capitals or in someone else's handwriting makes the application invalid. Some guides go further and say the whole text must be lowercase, so check the wording and any instruction about letter case in your own notice before you write it.

A candidate who cannot write may have the text typed and place their left thumb impression below it, following the instructions in the notice.

Resize all four files in one sitting

Put the signature, thumb print and declaration on separate white sheets, or leave a wide gap between them on one sheet, and photograph each in daylight. Then open the Exam Photo and Signature Resizer with IBPS & SBI selected and work through the four slots:

  • Photo: frame your face inside the outline
  • Signature: frame the signature tightly, with little empty paper
  • Left thumb: centre the print in the square
  • Declaration: frame the whole text with a small white margin

Each file comes out at the exact pixel size, inside its KB range and with 200 DPI recorded. A small signature that would save at 6 or 7 KB is raised to just above the 10 KB minimum without changing the picture. It is free, needs no login, works the same in a phone browser, and runs on your device, so the images stay with you until you upload them to the IBPS or SBI portal.

Photo or signature rejected? Causes and fixes

Most refused uploads trace back to a handful of causes, each with a quick fix:

  • File below the minimum KB: make it again with the IBPS & SBI preset, which keeps it above the minimum
  • File above the maximum: crop away empty background first, then resize
  • Signature or declaration in capital letters: sign or write it again in running hand
  • Declaration wording differs from the notice: rewrite it word for word
  • Blurred, rotated or dark scan: photograph again in daylight, with the phone flat above the paper
  • Cap, dark glasses or busy background in the photo: retake it against a plain wall
  • Thumb print smudged or cut off at the edges: press once more on fresh paper and frame it with a margin

If the portal refuses a file without saying why, our guide to why upload forms say a file is too large covers the less obvious causes, such as pixel dimensions and how different computers count KB.

Common questions

Can I upload a selfie? No. The notices ask for a passport-style photo, so have someone else take it at eye level against a plain wall.

Can I sign with a blue pen? Use black ink for the signature and the declaration, as recent notices ask. The thumb impression may use a blue or black ink pad.

Is a signature in capital letters accepted? No, for both the signature and the declaration. Write in your normal running hand.

Can I change a file after submitting the form? You can replace uploads while the form is still open and before the final submission, and the preview page is the place to check them. After the final submission, recent notices allow no changes, and some details such as the exam centre are locked earlier, so review everything on the preview page first.

Do I need the exact pixel size? The notices list the pixel sizes as preferred, but matching them avoids stretched or squashed images. The KB range is the part the portal checks strictly.

Before you submit

  • Open each file and check it is the right way up and easy to read
  • Compare the file sizes with the notice once more, for every slot
  • Read the declaration word by word against the notice
  • Save the four final files in one folder, since you may need them again for the mains or a later recruitment
  • Keep your registration number and password safe, as you need them to edit the form before the last date
  • Apply a few days before the deadline; the portal slows down badly in the final days
  • Keep a few prints of the same photo, since later stages can ask you to bring or paste it, and use that photo throughout

The sizes in this guide match the IBPS & SBI preset in the resizer. When a new notice changes a figure, choose Other / custom size and type the new values, and the result will follow them exactly.
